Overcoming Writer’s Block

Overcoming Writer's BlockWriting doesn’t come easy to all of us all the time. Sometimes it feels like you are smashing your head against a pile of bricks. The words just won’t come out.

Here are some methods to overcome writer’s block — break through and begin to flow eloquent words once again!

Get out and exercise

A little exercise may do the trick. Leave your iPod at home and hop on the bike, go for a jog, or take a walk. The sounds, sights, and smells may just inspire your next great work.

Get some pen and paper

In our world of technology sometimes the use of old fashioned pen and paper might do the trick.

Write for 10 minutes – about nothing

Take some time to just fill a piece of paper with words, random thoughts, or whatever. The goal is to fill a piece of paper. You will amaze yourself after just a few days. Doodle if necessary. The problem may just be that you are trying way to hard. If you are too hard on yourself you will kill your ideas before they ever land on paper. The best time to do this is first thing in the morning. Grab a cup of coffee, some paper and a pen and just write.

Eat better

A healthy brain requires healthy nourishment.

Notice a pattern?

If you are sharp, you may have noticed a pattern. Most of the tricks I listed are not quick fixes. In fact, if you were to put the tips above into action each and every day, you may find that you are healthier — even possibly writing at your peak. You may not see writing as a sport, but optimal health can help you perform at your peak.
