Ode to the Forest

I.

Misted trees, you stand tall,

Never will your regal trunks fade or fall

Stand in one place for a lifetime

Watch the ever-changing seasons pass

Let your leaves fall to the ground

with only the faintest whisper of a sound.

II.

The floor, speckled with spots of light

becomes black with the presence of night

But in the daytime, oh the forest shimmers!

Clear rays of sunshine stroke the ground

There are sweet brooks with singing water,

and the wind laughs – the leaves have caught her.

III.

Stop and listen to the birds’ echoing call

Ponder how the trees grew so tall

Hidden creatures sigh, gossip, and chuckle

Learn to speak with the emerald rafters above

Whisper along with the quivering leaves

that speak of serenity through the tranquil breeze.
