Jot A Bit was inspired by a friend that writes very well. She has an interest in publishing and sharing her works. She was also interested in getting candid feedback from other writers. At Jot A Bit our goal is to build a writing community. There really isn’t a whole lot more to it than that. We know there are many writing sites on the web already, however, we found that we wanted a community of fun. Write a bit, share a bit, vote a bit — enjoy it all A LOT!
Our main goal is to offer community based writing contests. The contests will take on the theme and form of the users of this site. The rules we have in place now are simply a starting point. Over time, the community will grow and the rules will evolve. Where ever we end up we want to keep it simple and fun. We will start with a single contest open to any type of writing. Later on, we may end up in a writing niche or have multiple writing contest categories each and every month. We’ll define this community together and have a great time doing it. We’ll encourage each other and help each other improve.
So what is this Jot A Bit anyway?
Jot as a noun means the smallest bit.
Matt 5:18 “For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled.”
Jot as a verb means to write a brief note.
Jot down the answer as I read the question.
The “Jot” is the Hebrew word “Yodh” which is the 10th letter of the Hebrew alphabet. It is also the smallest letter. The European or English equivalent is the letter “Y” as in the English term Yahweh or in Hebrew YHVH since there were no vowel’s used in the ancient script. The word “jot” itself is an English transliteration of “iota” which is the 9th letter of the Greek alphabet. “Iota,” in turn, is the nearest Greek equivalent for the Hebrew yodh.
